Having a Heart for the Gospel

As Christians, we are exhorted by the Lord in Mark 16:15b-16 “...Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to all the creation. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned.”  And again, by the Apostle Paul who said in Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes, both to Jew first and to Greek.”

Although we agree with these verses, and even deep within us have a sense we need to preach the gospel, we may not have much of a heart for this, or we are just not sure how to go about sharing our faith with our family, friends or classmates.

For this reason, we invited a dear brother in Christ, Scott Finnie, PhD  who lives for, and preaches the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  He has many interesting experiences and stories that have stirred up the faith and strengthened the heart of many young people for the gospel.

We invite you to come to this inspiring time to be infused with the spirit of the gospel, to hear some interesting stories, and to ask questions that you may have.

Scott Finnie, PhD, was raised in California’s Bay Area and moved to Spokane in 1975 on a basketball scholarship at Gonzaga University. At Gonzaga, he earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in criminal justice. In 1992, he earned a master’s degree in American history from Eastern Washington University. He later returned to Gonzaga for doctoral studies, earning a doctorate in leadership studies in 2000. His dissertation was titled, “The Impact of the Removal of Affirmative Action Upon the Freshmen Class at the University of Washington – Implications of a Ten-Year Quantitative Study.” Finnie has been a faculty member of EWU’s Africana Education Program (AEP) and Department of History since 1992. He currently serves as the department’s senior faculty member, its director of Africana Studies, and the executive director of its race and cultural studies program.
